No. 13 Spartans Fall in WCC Championship Match to No. 16 Cal Baptist
STOCKTON, Calif. - Brendon Gyapjas recorded 11 saves to lead the No. 13 San José State men’s water polo team (17-7, 4-2 WCC) in a 13-8 loss to No. 16 Cal Baptist (23-12, 3-3 WCC) in the championship match of the WCC Tournament.
- Gyapjas and Maro Tiozzo were both named to the WCC All-Tournament Team.
- It was the second season in a row the Spartans had made it to the WCC Championship match.
- Gypajas recorded 40 saves across the WCC Tournament’s three matches.
- Samu Biros led the Spartans with two goals in the match.
- Tiozzo, Jamie Steingraf and Mattin Sarhaddi each tallied a goal and an assist.
- Mitchell Keightley, Louis Fehrensen and Mateja Bosić all found the back of the net in the match.
- With 17 wins on the season, the Spartans earned the most wins in a season since the program was reinstated in 2015.
