Boys youth F8: incredible Fradi triumph
2024. May 12, 21:00
The team of FTC-Telekom once led in the final of the boys' junior eight against KSI: the in the bagpipe moment, when Nándor Szöllősi's shot landed under the crossbar, and with that the greens - just like in the semi-finals, coming back from a four-goal deficit - won the championship. The bronze went to those from Szolnok at the event held in front of a packed house in the Nyéki swimming pool.
The teams that reached the final eight of the youth championship produced three dizzying days. In the quarter-finals, Szolnok crushed UVSE quarter by quarter, and then FTC-Telekom got involved in a tough battle with Pécs. Although the defending age group champions led 5-2 at halftime, and even 7-4 at the end of the third period, the Browns held on and scored two goals in 37 seconds after 8-5, bringing the excitement back to the final game. In the last minute and a half, they were able to give the twins a man advantage twice, but they couldn't score either of them, so Fradi survived the challenge.
The third battle was not without the fesco either, three fourth perfectly balanced battles took place in the water between KSI and thanks to BVSC, and the people of Zugló took the lead right at the beginning of the fourth part. The sports school students immediately equalized, and after three minutes of relentless scrimmage, Mór Benedek's third goal gave KSI the advantage again. BVSC was unable to score a goal - and it remained so for the last seven minutes - until Csanád Kiss decided the game from the spot. The fourth match was the most one-sided, the host OSC did not give the Szeged players a single chance.
After that, the madness only intensified in the semi-final between Fradi and Szolnok on Saturday. After the first eight minutes, there was only one team in the water: Szolnok. They went 0-4, so it looked like they could easily pull this off. However, the green and whites soon arrived with Varga Kean's escape goal, and Nándor Szöllősi and Bella Csanád soon pushed the team back to minus one. Márk Urbán's action goal put an end to the process, so the score was 3-5 at halftime. The attacking suffocation of the Szolnok team did not really resolve, so in the middle of the third part, the Budapest team overtook them at 5-5. After six minutes, Maxim Cseh's free-throw goal gave Szolnok the lead again, and it remained that way until the end of the quarter, and even at the beginning of the fourth, they were already 5-7. Fradi quickly made up for it, and then came another four minutes of rock-hard scrimmages, the defenses stood the ground, until finally with 3:33 before the end, Mátyás Kovács equalized from a double shot. He also responded to Ábel Tigyi's four-point goal within 19 seconds, so the sides were tied at 8-8 with 2:41 left before the whistle. Both teams could have won it in regular time - although there were no more shots on either side - but the shots proved to be ineffective, so it was decided by five. And there, a single save decided: Levente Horváth, who was in amazing form in thirty-two minutes and made 15 saves, added a 16th, and since his teammates sold five out of five, Fradi could celebrate.
On the other side, it was easy. KSI glided to the finals. OSC held on for two quarters, then the two aces of the sports school students, Mór Benedek and Benedek Rabb, executed them: the two scored ten goals together (6 and 4), so the 6-4 first half was followed by a 9-3 second half.
On the final day, the players from Szolnok, recovering from their disappointment, dealt with the hosts in a similar way: they did not go badly in the first half (5-3), but in the second half they swept: they defeated these two parts by 8-1 and won the bronze medal.
But the final... Well, it started exactly as the Fradi meeting the day before: KSI soared when one second before the whistle Benedek hit a pointer from nine, 1- After changing the score to 5, few would have thought that this match could still hold excitement.
Analyzing what happened afterwards, it is clear that the sports school students also came to this point of view, so to speak, they completely stopped attacking - and Horváth also started to get there for their shots. The fact that they didn't have to take it into account was also due to the fact that the Ferencváros team didn't show any serious signs of life up front, apart from Varga Kean's man advantage goal.
At the same time, KSI stuck to the "it will just go in" method, so when Gábor Vizsnyovszki was able to convert another goal into a goal, at 5-3 the situation started to heat up. Finally, Benedek was able to change this after a great escape: he managed to break the deadlock after 12:35. But the blue-yellows couldn't increase the three-goal advantage, they left two goals empty, and Áron Sárfalvi's cross gave the greens some faith before the final part.
And after Bella scored a goal right from the first attack, it was palpable, from here on it was a real finale again. So much so that one minute later another long shot by Sárfalvi was the equalizer. Fradi could not take the lead, even though it had a chance, and Dániel Barcsa hit the long shot from a free kick, four and a half minutes before the whistle. But Mátyás Kovács equalized, again from outside, so there were four minutes left for the decision. A minute later, KSI got a penalty in the man advantage, Benedek nailed it, but in the next, seemingly dying FTC, Kristóf Dámosy pulled the goal, which allowed the greens to score five. Mátyás Kovács made no mistake, the score was 8-8 and 2:20. Fradi's shots came closer to a goal, but none of them made it... until the last moment, when the ball bounced off the crossbar and landed in the left hand of Nándor Szöllősi, who, after an adjustment, made a perfect left-footed shot from a sharp angle: the ball went off the crossbar and into the net. at the moment of the bagpipe. That's when Fradi took the lead for the first time - and with this momentum, the champions could start celebrating wildly, while the KSI players leaned on the rope terribly bitterly: they scored five in eight minutes, three in the next twenty-four, so it's not really possible to win a match.
On the other hand, the greens were able to enjoy an age group title defense (in addition, without their suspended best, Bátór Paján), and the excitement of the captain's children continued: last week in the girls' children's championship, Mihók Mandula, now Varga Kean won gold medals; at the same time, this is the end of the T-shirt-wearing trainers, you can hardly rely on this mascot in the next age group finals...
