Third Champions League match for Polar Bears, GZC Donk, and Dutch players
The women of Polar Bears and GZC Donk will play their third Champions League group stage matches tomorrow. In Ede, the Polar Bears will play against Hungary's FTC Telekom, one of the strongest teams in Europe, at 7:30 p.m. Noa de Vries, former top scorer of Z&PC Het Ravijn, plays for the Hungarian team. The women from Gouda have traveled to Athens to face former international Maud Megens' Alimos. The match will start at 8:00 p.m. Greek time. Greece is 1 hour ahead of the Netherlands.
Coach Erik Brugue's team won the opening match against Roma in Group C. The exciting game ended in a 14-14 draw at full time. The Gouda ladies were stronger than the Italians in the penalty shootout, securing a 20-19 victory at home. The last Champions League match against Olympiakos, featuring Dutch youth international Amalia Christodoulou-Out, was lost 17-13 in Piraeus, Greece.
Tomorrow's third group stage match will be crucial for Polar Bears. Coach Petros Doudesis' team lost the first two Champions League matches in Group B and will aim to perform well against the tough FTC team. The first match was against strong Spanish side MatarĂ³.
