WATER POLO / EURO CUP MEN
Panathinaikos "holds" qualification in their hands, 14-11 victory over Honved
At the crowded Seraphim swimming pool, Panathinaikos celebrated a 14-11 victory over Honved in the context of the 5th matchday of the group stage of the Euro Cup Men.
Dimitris Mazis' team did not start the match as they would have liked, falling behind by three goals (0-3), but managed to reduce the difference as time passed and were at a breath's distance from the Hungarians at halftime (5-6). In the second half, the "trifolium" notably improved its defense, closing the octet at +2 (10-8). In the final octet, the hosts had the momentum and thanks to that, they widened their lead, taking the victory 14-11.
The protagonists in Panathinaikos' victory were the team's two shooters, Papanikolaou and Sgouridis, who found the net four times each.
With this win, the Greek team holds qualification to the next stage of the competition in its own hands, as it is level on points with Sabac - which defeated Barcelona 12-10 - both on nine points whom it will face in the last matchday of the group.
