TRIESTE TRIES, BRESCIA TAKES ADVANTAGE AT "BIANCHI" (11-15)
MIRARCHI: "PLAYED WITH GRIT AND DETERMINATION"
A courageous performance was not enough to stop the Lombard powerhouse. In the sixth round of the Italian A1 men's water polo championship, at the "Bruno Bianchi" pool, Pallanuoto Trieste was defeated by AN Brescia 11-15. A victory that allows the "lions" to maintain the top spot of the league table with a perfect score alongside Recco Waterpolo. Despite several lineup issues, the team sponsored by Samer & Co. Shipping remained in the game for a long time. "We tried - explains coach Maurizio Mirarchi - I asked the boys to show determination and grit in the water, and they did. We were close in the score, but in the end, their greater physical freshness emerged. We are slowly incorporating young players, with seven Triestini in the lineup today, Casavola made his debut and contributed." "Overall a good performance - adds General Manager Andrea Brazzatti - considering the challenging week for some of our players who trained little. The use of Casavola is very satisfying, the club invests a lot in the youth academy."
Balanced start. Guerrato breaks the deadlock after 1'06'' (0-1), then only goals from man-up situations. Mladossich and Manzi make it 2-1, Gianazza ties the game (2-2), Draskovic scores for 3-2, Faraglia and Irving combine for 3-4 at the end of the first period. Trieste tries in every way to stay close in the match. At the start of the second quarter, Ferrero scores 3-5 on a powerplay, Captain Petronio shortens the gap with a penalty shot, and a Sedlmayer surge at two meters equals 5-5. The guests capitalize on their chances with precision, and with Dolce and Irving, they lead 5-7 at halftime.
The script remains unchanged in the third period. The guests reach +4 with Irving's counterattack goal (6-10), Mirarchi introduces 2007-born Francesco Casavola in his A1 debut, a superb diagonal shot by Mladossich on a man-up situation makes it 7-10, Gianazza replies (7-11). The Alabardati show perseverance: a mini comeback with a penalty by Draskovic and another rocket by Mladossich brings the score to 9-11. But with just 21'' left in the quarter, a lost ball on a counterattack allows Gianazza to score 9-12. In the fourth quarter, Trieste is clearly low on energy. Lazovic makes extraordinary saves but surrenders to Dolce (9-13). Manzi keeps hope alive with a left-handed shot at 10-13 with 3' left, and Brescia secures the win with Irving and Faraglia scoring on a powerplay (10-15). The final possession rewards an initiative by Casavola, who earns the penalty that Sedlmayer converts for the final score of 11-15.
Pallanuoto Trieste will play away against De Akker Bologna on Saturday, November 23rd, at 4:30 PM.
