SERIES HISTORY
• UCLA is 99-91-1 all-time against USC. The Bruins have defeated the Trojans twice already this year, 12-9, to capture its second-straight Overnght/MPSF Invitational crown (Sept. 22) and 13-10 at USC (Oct. 19). UCLA led wire-to-wire and had leads of 7-2 and 9-4 in the first meeting. The Trojans led 7-6 at halftime of the second encounter before the Bruins dominated the third period, 5-1, to take an 11-8 lead into the final stanza and held onto to the three-goal advantage down the stretch.
RECAPPING LAST TIME OUT
No. 2 UCLA went 2-0 to close out the road schedule with impressive wins in the Bay Area. The Bruins opened with a 20-14 win at No. 7 California (Nov. 2) and then posted a 13-6 win at No. 2 Stanford (Nov. 3). A total of 10 Bruins scored against the Golden Bears as freshman Ryder Dodd paced the attack with a game-high eight points that included six goals (13th hat trick of the year) and two assists. Five other Bruins scored multiple goals with graduate transfers Nico Tierney and Aaron Voggenthaler, redshirt junior Chase Dodd, sophomore Ben Liechty, and freshman Peter Castillo all scoring twice against the Golden Bears. The win over Stanford was the largest margin of victory in 24 years, or since the Bruins' 10-3 win at home on Nov. 4, 2000. That year the Bruins went on to win the 2000 NCAA Championship in Adam Wright's senior year. A total of seven Bruins scored in the game, paced by just the second hat trick of the year for graduate student Jack Larsen. Showing incredible balance, another four Bruins scored multiple goals, which included two apiece from freshman Ryder Dodd, sophomore Ben Liechty, redshirt junior Chase Dodd, and graduate transfer Nico Tierney. Redshirt freshman Nate Tauscher got the first start of his collegiate career and he went the distance, tallying a career-high 13 saves while holding Stanford to a season-low six goals. Tauscher and the Bruins were stingy in the second half, outscoring the Cardinal, 7-1, with Tauscher coming up huge in both quarters with four saves in each, including two big penalty stops in the fourth quarter, thwarting any chance of a Stanford comeback.
