Champions | Astralpool Sabadell and Sant Andreu triumph while Terrassa and Assolim Mataró fall
Very interesting second day of the Champions group stage with the four Spanish representatives in action this Saturday. And a direct duel, which was won by Astralpool CN Sabadell in the derby against CN Terrassa (10-7). In addition, Assolim CN Mataró 11-13 Ferencvaros and UVSE Budapest 10-13 CN Sant Andreu.
What a derby we witnessed between CN Terrassa and Astralpool CN Sabadell at Can Llong (10-7). David Palma's team started well (3-1 in the first quarter) and extended their lead to 7-1 in the second quarter, putting Jordi Millán's team in a difficult position. Although the Terrassa team scored to make it 7-2 before halftime and came out stronger in the second half. In the fourth period, Pili Peña scored for 9-6, but Terrassa could not narrow the gap further. Final score 10-7, giving Sabadell a perfect record (2/2) and leaving Terrassa without points. Despite Paula Prats' excellent performance (five goals).
At Joan Serra in Mataró, Dani Ballart's team sought their second win in the continental competition against the formidable Ferencvaros but eventually lost narrowly by 11-13. The Hungarians led 7-8 at halftime and the match was poised at 9-10 in the final eight minutes. Despite the home crowd's support, goals from Plevritou and Farkas dashed the local team's hopes (9-12). Mataró now has 3/6 points in Group B.
Finally, CN Sant Andreu, leading Group D after a big win in the first round, visited the strong UVSE in Budapest. Javi Aznar's team had to work hard against the Hungarian side, who led 10-8 at halftime. After the break, the reigning Iberdrola Supercopa champion (and European bronze medalist) showed their best form with a 0-3 run. They turned it around to 10-11 in the last eight minutes and scored another 0-2 for a 0-5 in the second half.
