A1 M - the new season at Muri Antichi officially presented. Tomorrow Giorgini's debut against Salerno
The eve is always that day with a particular flavor, that expectation mixed with hidden but existing emotion. It's there, waiting to dive into the pool for the debut in the championship, and it is a great return for Muri Antichi to the stages they belong to. Today at the "Muri Antichi" sports center, the team that will take part in the A2 South group championship for the new 2024-2025 season, which is eager to compete in the pool from tomorrow for the first match, was officially presented. Scebba's men will face the renowned Rari Nantes Salerno, relegated from the A1 championship, a challenging task for Giorgini Ottica, which returns to compete against prestigious teams with a great history of water polo.
The president Luigi Spinnicchia, after just two years in Series B, has succeeded in bringing back Series A thanks to collaborative work with the management: "All this would not have been possible if we had not joined forces and made well-considered decisions together with managers Andrea Scirè, Gabriele Indelicato, Paolo Alessi, Enrico Sciacca, and Aurelio Scebba himself. It was necessary to regain what has always been the true DNA of the club, namely to believe in young people and to focus on the sense of belonging."
Also present at the event was the Councilor for Sport of the municipality of Catania and president of Federnuoto Sicilia Sergio Parisi, who welcomes back a great reality in Series A: "Finding Muri Antichi in A2 is a source of great pride and careful planning by the club. I have seen many of these boys grow up, water polo stands out as a virtuous sport and shapes athletes and individuals who manage to achieve great satisfaction in their professional lives, and I am sure Muri Antichi embodies these characteristics. The water polo movement throughout Sicily is constantly growing, and this glorious club could not be left out."
After months of effort in building a competitive team, Sports Director Andrea Scirè declares himself more than satisfied with the roster assembly: "I cannot call the new additions true comebacks because for me athletes like Marangolo, Zovko, Nicolosi, and Faro have never left. Tkac's addition was strongly desired by me and Aurelio, and we are sure he will do well along with the rest of the team that has remained. Project? We never set dates, we regained A2 in 2 years, and it was not easy, now we have increasingly solid foundations to work on, and I am confident for the future."
One who has trodden Series A far and wide as a player is certainly Aurelio Scebba, who two years ago decided to take on the role of coach and now faces his first coaching experience in Serie A. "At the end of the last A2 season, my choice was already mapped out, to leave played water polo to continue my career as a coach. Initially, it wasn't easy, with many of the players I coach, we grew up together, but now everything is easier, and there is an incredible synergy. The championship? It will be very competitive, and we like that. We will have a tough schedule in the first three matches, but we will make our mark and play our game as we have always done."
The match tomorrow, November 9, against Rari Nantes Salerno will be played at the Nesima pool starting at 3:00 pm. Those interested can watch it live on the YouTube channel 'Sport Web Sicilia'.
