TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Host/Florida Division Champion/No. 4-ranked the University of Florida defended its home water of the Ann Marie Rogers Swimming & Diving Pool in the O’Connell Center as the Gators chomped down on Missouri Valley Division Champion Iowa State University for a 27-5 victory in the second game on the opening day of the 2024 Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship.

The win advances Florida to an 11:20 a.m. Eastern game on Saturday, November 9, versus the victor of another first round game pitting New England Division Champion/No. 14 Boston University and Northwest Division Champion/No. 14 the University of Oregon.  Iowa State – which can not finish higher than Ninth Place in the championship standings due to the opening round loss – will face the fallen from the Boston University/Oregon game at 8:40 p.m. this evening in the consolation side of the 16-team championship bracket.

The Gators scored early, often and with intent in the first half as Florida built leads of 10-1 and 17-3 by the conclusion of the opening two quarters prior to slowing down for 8-2 and 2-0 margins in the third and four quarters, respectively.

For Florida, Player of the Game Caleb Berman (So., Miami Beach, Fla.) (six), Dylan Umpierre (Sr., Orlando, Fla.) (three), Nicholas Borden (So., Danville, Calif.) (three), Ignacio Hurtado (Jr., Madrid, Spain) (two), Connor Umpierre (So., Orlando, Fla.) (two), Travis Greco (Gr., San Diego, Calif.) (two) and Dante Lorenzo-Rodgers (Sr., Miami Beach, Fla.) (two) combined for 20 of the Gators’ tallies, while Nicholas Santarsiero (So., Davie, Fla.), Owen Rimes (Fr., Orlando, Fla.), Christopher York (Fr., Redondo Beach, Calif.), Mateo Friedman-Bello (Jr., Sanford, Fla.), Brian Kent (Gr., Marietta, Georgia), Micah Bayle (Jr., Hudsonville, Mich.) and Daniel Lombello (Fr., Miami, Fla.) chipped in solo tallies.

Gators’ goalkeepers Logan Mazor (Sr., Hollywood, Fla.) and Lars Hammersmark (Gr., Gainesville, Fla.) combined for five saves.

Mo Elliboudy (Fr., New Jersey) and Casey Smith (Fr., Santa Clara, Calif.) both netted pairs of markers for Iowa State, while Sam Perez (Fr., La Grange, Ill.) notched a solo strike.  Alex Lofrano (Sr., Arlington Heights, Ill.) stopped two shots in taking the loss.
