Split adds 2 more semifinalists
After Dubrovnik and the local qualifying tournament of the Croatian Cup for seniors, the qualifying matches of the same competition will follow in the swimming pool at Poljud in Split.
In the second largest Croatian city, 6 teams will gather for the tournament, 3 of which are from Split – Jadran, OVK Split, POŠK 1937, as well as Solaris, Primorje EB, and Zadar 1952.
Realistically, the highest chances of securing a spot in the final round of the Cup (Zagreb, November 26 and 27) are given to Jadran. The current national champion, participant in the Champions League, a team with national team players… That is everything that the other tournament participants still lack. Jadran is indeed the favorite to claim the first place in the group.
However, a fierce battle will unfold for the second spot. It is expected to be between Solaris and Primorje EB. Both teams arrive in Split with full squads, guaranteeing uncertainty.
Let's not forget, Primorje EB and Solaris have already met once this season. It was in the 3rd round of the Premier League in Rijeka almost a month ago (October 11). The winner was decided by a penalty shootout, with Solaris coming out on top. The final score was 21:20 for Solaris after a 15:15 tie at the end of four quarters, with Petković (Solaris) scoring the winning goal with just 9 seconds left.
The match between the teams from Šibenik and Rijeka is scheduled in Split on Friday, November 8 in the evening (8:30 PM). This match can be watched via live stream with commentary on the YouTube channel of the Croatian Water Polo Federation. On the same day, on the same platform (YouTube channel), we will also broadcast the match Zadar 1952 – OVK Split.
