Parma, November 3, 2024 – The 1st Edition of the Erreà Sport Center Cup “1st Memorial Buia Nereo”, organized by Sport Center Polisportiva at the swimming pool of the "Ercole Negri" Sports Center in Parma, ends with the applause of the audience in honor of the 6 participating teams. SIS Roma won the tournament ahead of Plebiscito Padova and Trieste. Remaining outside the podium were Sori (5th), Bologna (5th), and Parma (6th).
"For us, it was the first time organizing a federal tournament, and we are satisfied that our proposal was attractive to clubs that have been working on youth sectors for years and have first teams in Serie A1 like Roma, Trieste, and Padova," commented Renato Baladelli, president of Sport Center Polisportiva. "From a technical point of view, we still have a lot to grow, but our youth sector is only two years old, so we are confident about the future. This experience has helped us understand where we are and where we can improve because we want to go far."
The teams played under the watchful eyes of Aleksandra Cotti, coach of the U16 National Team and Silver medalist at the 2016 Rio Olympics as a player, who also led a meeting dedicated to the theme "Becoming the protagonist of your dream! From sports to studying with passion, dedication, and resilience."
"These tournaments are essential for the girls, as they can gain both technical and life experience and find always new stimuli because at their age, they have chosen a demanding passion. It is up to us adults to help them nurture it," said Aleksandra Cotti, coach of the U16 National Team. "Then it is important that new clubs like Parma believe in and invest in this sport in a structured way with passion and dedication.
All the clubs were awarded a plaque, while all the athletes received as a gift the commemorative t-shirts of the tournament created in collaboration with Erreà Play Parma, a reference sales point for the territory of Erreà, the new technical sponsor of Sport Center Polisportiva.
The tournament was dedicated to Nereo Buia, the third generation of the Buia family, a historic Parma family of building contractors that began its business at the end of the nineteenth century with "Fratelli Buia." After graduating as an industrial expert at the Bassi Institute in Milan, Nereo Buia founded his eponymous company in 1962 and started writing an important chapter in the history of building entrepreneurship in Parma and beyond after World War II. A fan of Parma Calcio and sports in general, he passed the legacy of the company to his son Gabriele, who, among various civic projects, accepted the challenge of building the "Ercole Negri" Sports Center, the 1st in Emilia-Romagna for land and water sports: inaugurated in 2011, today it welcomes 70,000 people per month.
