No. 5 Tigers Pounce on Falcons for WCC Road Win
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Darting out to a 5-0 lead, the No. 5 Pacific men's water polo program got off to a fast start and never looked back in a 22-12 win over Air Force on Sunday in a West Coast Conference match at Cadet Natatorium.
The victory kept the Tigers unbeaten in conference play as they improved to 15-1 overall and 3-0 in the league. Pacific was guided by graduate Stefan Vavic who turned in a season-high four goals and two assists.
The Tigers garnered goals from 10 different student-athletes. Each recording hat tricks were senior Mihailo Vukazic, freshman Yoaz Rendler and freshman Ori Buzaglo. Vukazic is up to 52 goals on the season.
A pair of goals were tallied by senior Jeremie Cote, senior Reuel D'Souza and graduate Matthew Hosmer. Senior Daniel Viscia, senior Manuel Pembertty and graduate Oliver Fodor all found the back of the net once.
Air Force (12-17, 0-3 WCC) didn't score its first goal until the 5:40 mark of the second quarter. The Tigers ended the half on a 3-0 run, which included two goals by Vukazic to remain in front 10-3 at the intermission.
Pacific scored six more times in both the third and fourth quarters to keep the game out of reach. Tom Leggett led the Falcons with nine goals.
Graduate Bae Fountain made 12 saves in three quarters. Graduate Lewis Gale entered in relief in the fourth and stopped a penalty shot.
Pacific returns home Friday when it hosts No. 17 Santa Clara at 7 p.m. at the Eberhardt Aquatics Center. The Tigers will host the West Coast Conference Championships on Nov. 22-24.
