Men’s Water Polo Concludes Homestand With Two Exhibition Wins

Freshman Artur Diaz led the team with six goals.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – No. 11 Long Beach State hosted their last two home games at the season defeating Long Beach City College and Golden West College in exhibition games.
 
The Beach (15-9, 2-2 Big West) defeated the Vikings 18-7 in the first game of the day. Redshirt Freshman Joe Jenness recorded six saves, three steals and an assist to help the Beach. Long Beach State controlled the game starting with a four-goal lead in the first quarter, winning 7-3.
 
In the second quarter, the Beach only allowed one goal by Long Beach City while scoring five to extend the lead to eight, heading into halftime up 12-4. With a good advantage, the Beach controlled the rest of the game and won the first game of the day by 18-7.
 
Scoring for the Beach in the first game were Riley Catino, Artur Diaz, Caleb Francisco, Alec Johnson, Kostantinos Kapragkos and Corbin Stanley all with a pair of goals. Gabi Acosta, Marc Frigola, Nicolas Fuchs, Nikola Jancic, Itai Roth and Jason O'Donnell all netted one goal in the match.
 
Led by freshman Artur Diaz with four goals, the Beach defeated Golden West College by 17-7. Same as the first game, Long Beach State was able to control the game since the beginning by starting with a 4-2 advantage on the first quarter. After letting the Rustlers scoreless on the second quarter, the Beach head into halftime up 8-2
 
Goalkeeper Joe Jenness had two penalties shot saves in the second half to let the Beach to another win on the day. Jenness ended the second game with nine saves and two steals.
The Beach kept the Rustlers to only one goal on the third quarter, heading into the last quarter up 11-3. The last quarter had more action with the Beach scoring six goals and the Rustlers four, with the Beach winning 17-7.
 
Artur Diaz with four goals led the offense, Kostantinos Kapragkos and Alexander Makshanoff recorded a pair of goals, and nine players recorded one goal to conclude the scoresheet.
 
The Beach is back in action for their last conference game at No. 14 UC Santa Barbara next Saturday.
