Ten teams looking to be crowned U15 female national champions
Ten teams will be looking to be crowned national champions as the GoCardless Swim England Water Polo U15 Female National Age Group Championships return this weekend.
They will all be competing across two days at Coventry’s Alan Higgs Centre, starting on Saturday 2 November with group stage action.
Two groups have been drawn with defending champions, City of Liverpool, headlining Group A.
Last time out the club won their first ever national title at this level and will be hopeful of retaining the crown this time around.
It was a result that meant a lot to the club with team’s head coach Alice Byrne, ‘over the moon’ after their victory.
Speaking after the win she said: “I’m just over the moon. This result is full credit to this group who’s dedication and commitment to work together as a team has gotten them to this point.
“They’ve worked so hard to get to here and it really was a full team effort this weekend to win the title.
“We’ve never won the U15s before so I’m just so pleased for them because they’re just such a nice, friendly and positive group of girls.
“They always work hard and are always wanting to improve their game and what they’ve learnt so I’m just unbelievably proud of them.”
Exeter, Rotherham Metro, Beckenham and Croydon Amphibians are the teams who stand in their way of them getting a chance to defend their title.
They’ll each play each other in Group A on Saturday with the top two getting the opportunity to play for a medal on Sunday.
In Group B, 2023 runners-up West London Penguin and bronze medal winners Worthing will be two teams to watch.
They’ll come into the competition as two of the favourites when they take on Tydesley, Cheltenham and Caledonia in their group on Saturday.
Penguin battled hard in last year’s final and will be looking to follow in the footsteps of the club’s Open/Male U17 side who took the national title back in April. It’ll be a similar story for Worthing, who saw their Open/Male U19 complete a three-peat of national titles whilst both their U17 and U19 Female sides have already had success this year after reaching the national finals for the first time.
On Sunday 3 November, they’ll be a crossover matches for the top four in each group before they head into their final classification matches later in the day – where the medals will be decided.
