Pepperdine Hosts Santa Clara and California Baptist
MALIBU, Calif. — The #9 Pepperdine men's water polo team will play two home conference games this weekend as the Waves take on #18 Santa Clara on Friday before facing off with #15 California Baptist on Sunday.

#18 SANTA CLARA — The Waves are an impressive 12-2 all-time against the Broncos, including an 11-6 road win over Santa Clara last season. Pepperdine has never lost to Santa Clara at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool with a 2-0 home record versus the Broncos. This season, Santa Clara is 0-2 in WCC play and 11-7 overall. The Broncos have picked up ranked wins against UC Davis and Brown this year.
#15 CALIFORNIA BAPTIST — Pepperdine is 11-1 all-time against California Baptist, which includes a 16-11 regular season victory last season. The Lancers defeated the Waves 20-13 in the semifinals of the WCC Tournament last year to end Pepperdine's season. This season, California Baptist is 2-0 in WCC play and 18-9 overall. The Lancers have collected ranked wins over UC Irvine, Loyola Marymount, Santa Clara and Harvard during the 2024 season.

SEATING — Bleacher seating at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool is limited and on a first-come, first-serve basis. Fans are encouraged to bring their own chairs and/or blankets to sit on the hillside next to the bleachers. Parking may be limited and guests are advised to arrive early.
MOSES — Merrill Moses, a three-time Olympian, former All-American and national champion water polo player for the Waves, was elevated to head coach in March 2024. This season will be his first year as the head coach and his 13th on staff. Over the past 12 years, the Waves are 179-138 (.565) and have won four conference titles, including a most recent regular season crown last season.
HUNGARY FOR SUCCESS — The Waves have three standout players all hailing from Budapest, Hungary in juniors Adam Csapo and Sandor Gal as well as freshman Erik Ionescu.
Csapo is no stranger to success having already been a two-time All-American honorable mention and two-time All-Conference second team award winner. He was named to the All-WCC Preseason Team for the second straight year and has already tallied 53 goals and a team-leading 35 assists this year - including a game-high five goals against #3 USC.
In his two years as a Wave, Gal has never missed a game and has been a staple in the Pepperdine lineup. He scored a total of 58 goals and dished out 72 assists in his first two seasons. This season, Gal has tallied 29 goals and 29 assists on a .439 shooting percentage. He had four goals and three assists in the 15-13 win over #13 UCSB on September 19.
Making an immediate impact for the Waves in his debut season, Ionescu has already been named the WCC Newcomer of the Week three times, once for his performances at the Triton Invitational, again after he helped the Waves win five games in three days and another time for his performances against #11 Princeton and Air Force in the conference opener. He's dished out 30 assists and found the back of the net 40 times so far this season.
100 CLUB — Christian Hosea and Adam Csapo have both tallied over 100 career goals having found the back of the net 174 and 166 times respectively. Hosea sits 18th on the all-time scoring list for the Waves, while Csapo is currently 21st on the list.
AWARDS — Pepperdine has won five WCC weekly awards so far this season. Most recently, Erik Ionescu won his third WCC Newcomer of the Week award on October 22.
