Bosić and and Poletaev Earn Player of the Week Honors

SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State men’s water polo swept this week’s WCC Player of the Week awards as Mateja Bosić was named Player of the Week and Alexey Poletaev was named Newcomer of the Week, announced by the conference on Tuesday. 

Bosić tallied 18 points in the Julian Fraser Memorial, consisting of 10 goals and eight assists, leading the Spartans to a 3-0 record in the event. Against No. 13 Harvard, Bosić scored the game winning goal for the Spartans with just four seconds left in overtime. In the game, he tallied eight points, on five goals and three assists, the most points recorded in a game by any Spartan player this season. Bosić also recorded an assist against No. 5 Fordham. Across all four games for the Spartans this week, Bosić tallied 10 goals, nine assists, six steals and drew six exclusions.

In net for all four of the Spartans' games this week, Poletaev led SJSU to a 3-0 record at the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament and a 3-1 record overall with the lone Spartan loss coming in a two goal defeat to No. 5 Fordham. Across all four games, Poletaev recorded 35 saves and eight steals across all four games, including a 15 save and three steal performance in the Spartans' overtime win over No. 13 Harvard.

The 12th ranked Spartans have won seven of their last eight games, including three in a row. At 12-4 on the season, SJSU has won seven games over ranked opponents. SJSU will return to action on Sunday, Nov. 3 against UC Irvine at noon at the SRAC.
