CHAMPIONS | Assolim CN Mataró wins a crazy match in the Netherlands (17-19)
A whopping 36 goals were scored in the Dutch Champions League clash between Polar Bears and Assolim CN Mataró. A 'madness' that ended up smiling on the Spanish team, who won 17-19 in the first match of this group stage of the top continental competition.
The match started strongly. Eight goals in the first quarter, in which the tulip team took a two-goal lead on the scoreboard (5-3). Dani Ballart's team got their act together in the second eight minutes. Another 10 goals for a partial score of 4-6 in favour of the Maresme team. The match was tied (9-9) at the long break.
After the restart, the constant back-and-forth continued. Goals and more goals and the Polar Bears were one up in the last eight minutes (14-13). And in that final stretch the Spanish team were more accurate, linking a 0-4 run (14-17) that was almost definitive. But the home team still reacted and made it 17-18 with 2:21 to play. Martina Clavería 'killed' it with 12 seconds to go with the final 17-19.
