No. 5 Fordham University Fends Off the University of California-Merced, 20-6, at Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament
SAN JOSE, Calif. – The train that is the No. 5-ranked Fordham University water polo team just keeps rolling, as the Rams ran their undefeated record to 20-0 with a 20-6 win over the University of California-Merced as part of the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament.
Out of the gate, Fordham scored six times in the first quarter for a 6-1 lead. Luca Provenziani had two of the six goals with Balazs Berenyi, Andras Toth, Marco Napolitano and Barnabas Eppel picking up the other markers.
The Rams added five more tallies in the second quarter, pulling out to an 11-2 advantage, and never looked back, netting three in the third quarter and six more in the fourth quarter for a 14-goal win.
For Fordham, Toth led all scorers with four goals to go with four steals, while Berenyi had three. Provenziani and Napolitano each had two goals and two assists with Papanikolaou dishing out four assists to go with a goal.
In net, all three Fordham goalies played with Thomas Lercari having three saves in two quarters, Kristof Magony making three in a quarter of play, and Reggie Robles racking up a pair in a quarter of action.
