No. 4 Pacific Preps for Unbeaten Showdown with No. 5 Fordham Followed by Match vs. No. 13 Harvard - University of the Pacific
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – In a clash between the only two undefeated teams in the country, the No. 4 Pacific men's water polo program will battle No. 5 Fordham in a neutral site match-up at 2:40 p.m. Friday at the Sullivan Aquatic Center as part of the Julian Fraser Memorial, hosted by Santa Clara.
Pacific (13-0, 2-0 WCC) will play two matches in two days as it will also take-on No. 13 Harvard (15-3, 5-0 IVY) at 3:40 p.m. Saturday at the same location as part of the tournament. It will be a rematch from Sept. 8 when the Tigers went on the road and defeated Harvard 15-14.
Pacific will first have its attention on a Fordham squad that is 16-0 overall and 7-0 in the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference. The Rams have eight wins over top-20 opponents this year, while the Tigers have 11.
Two-time reigning West Coast Conference Player of the Week winner, senior Mihailo Vukazic, leads the squad with 45 goals (3.46 gpg) on the year. He's scored in every game on the season and has won three WCC weekly honors total.
The Tigers are coming off a 10-5 win over No. 18 LMU as the five goals were the fewest allowed in a match this year. Graduate Bae Fountain stood out with 10 saves in net.
Back on the offensive end, four Tigers have scored over 20 goals this year. In addition to Vukazic, graduate Matthew Hosmer has netted 26, senior Reuel D'Souza 22 and graduate Oliver Fodor 21.
The Tigers are 2-0 all-time against Fordham and 7-1 against Harvard.
Pacific's next home game is Friday, Nov. 8 when it hosts No. 17 Santa Clara at 7 p.m. at the Eberhardt Aquatics Center.
