Tournaments – The U.S. Luca Locatelli Genoa restarts here in Villingen, Germany TorneoTacke Pokal 2024
Twentieth victory for the Unione Sportiva Luca Locatelli Genoa in Villingen, in the stunning setting of the Hallenbad immersed in the fairytale landscape of a medieval village amidst the Black Forest. For the fourteenth time, the Genoese girls have raised the prestigious Tacke Pokal trophy, fourteen triumphs (a record for the event now at its 38th edition), to which six titles won in the past by the men's team must be added. This year, with a very young team, they had to settle for the eighth and final place.
The girls started the tournament with a decidedly subpar performance against the Austrian champions from Tirol strengthened by the second-placed team from Vienna, practically the Austrian national team, still winning convincingly by 10-5. In the second classification match, they significantly improved, outclassing Milan (who later finished third) 13-3. After winning the semifinal 15-4 against Canottieri Milano, they managed the final brilliantly, winning without trouble against the Swiss runners-up from Winterthur by a clear 8-3, where even the very young players Caterina Morelli and Rachele Giacomelli had ample space. Rachele, at 12 years old, was the youngest player in the tournament. Little glory for the only German team, the mixed Karlsruhe-Stuttgart, finishing in sixth place. The joy of victory for Locatelli Genoa was completed by the comeback of Jamila Tedesco leading the top scorers' chart.
Different story for the boys, who arrived in Germany without a single player from the first team (whose new coach Mattia De Ferrari had important pre-electoral commitments this past weekend). The young otters, in fact, lost all the matches played, but apart from the clear 8-3 defeat against the hosts of WBG Villingen-Schwenningen, they played honorably for the rest of the event. The tournament was won by the Germans from Kreuzlingen, with close defeats against the finalists from Kaiserslautern (7-10), Stuttgart (5-7), and Heilbronn (7-8). They also had the satisfaction of seeing Filippo Ravizza win the coveted Faultkoenig award, given to the most "gritty" player.
