MOL Women's National Championship I: big teams continue without stumbling
The favorites secured victories in the 3rd round of the women's championship, although Dunaújváros faced some tense moments as guests in District III after taking a five-goal lead. UVSE and Ferencváros won comfortably, with the match between Eger and BVSC from a week ago being the most exciting as the hosts emerged victorious; however, BVSC later got their revenge in the cup.
A week ago in Eger, the monstrous battle against BVSC began – the hosts won the match led by the six-goal performance of Pogonyi Bíbor. The two teams engaged in a fierce battle, with the railway personnel taking a three-goal lead in the first half, but the home team scored twice after a 12-12 tie, with the equalizer coming just 39 seconds before the final whistle, giving Eger the victory. In return, BVSC won their two quarter-final cup matches; perhaps they made the better deal overall on Szőnyi Street...
As for the recently played matches this Tuesday, they lacked half the excitement – of course, it would have been a surprise if it had been otherwise. Even the atmosphere heated up somewhat during the Budapest away game of Dunaújváros, as the guests led 8-3 at halftime, but District III started the third quarter with a 3-0 run, unsettling Dunaújváros, which led to a close match with a score of 10-11 towards the end. Kriszta Garda scored a goal at 0:02, starting the fourth quarter from 10-12 - then Dunaújváros had to defend a disadvantage before Geraldine Mahieu increased the lead by three with her goal. DFVE won the match mainly through their extra player opportunities, scoring ten times in six-on-five situations.
In the other two matches, the two most recent finalists dominated. UVSE scored 22 goals against Szentes, while Ferencváros defeated KSI decisively – despite resting several key players, the green-white team allowed more goals (10) than expected, but the focus was on the upcoming Champions League start this weekend.
