Vaterpolo Savez and Uroš Stevanović Headed to Los Angeles Together
The Water Polo Federation of Serbia and head coach Uroš Stevanović have extended their contract, continuing their collaboration into the new Olympic cycle, all the way to Los Angeles 2028.
Although there was no doubt after winning another Olympic gold, an official confirmation was awaited, which arrived today when the President of the WPS, Viktor Jelenić, and head coach Uroš Stevanović confirmed the news.
Jelenić remarked with satisfaction:
– Stevanović signed his first contract with the federation in October 2022. His contract expired in October this year, and we immediately signed a new one. We easily reached an agreement. He did a great job in challenging circumstances and with a team whose quality many doubted, was able to achieve a fantastic result - the third consecutive Olympic gold medal for Serbia. The coach expressed a desire to continue our collaboration, he has our full trust, and we move forward together.
Uroš Stevanović added:
– My desire was never in question. Being a head coach fulfills my greatest wish, and as the president said, we easily reached an agreement. This is a new Olympic cycle, and we are moving forward.
Recall that after the resignation of head coach Dejan Savić, Uroš Stevanović took over the national team in October 2022. At the first major competition, the World Championships in Fukuoka, the team secured fourth place. This year, at the European Championships in Zagreb, Serbia finished seventh, and sixth at the World Championships in Doha.
However, this did not deter him. Through rigorous preparation, calling up Ćuk and Dedović, engaging sports psychologist Andrija Gerić, creating the necessary chemistry and excellent atmosphere, he managed to achieve a historic result with the team at the biggest sporting event.
