No. 4 Pacific Shuts Down No. 18 LMU for WCC Win
STOCKTON, Calif. – Outscoring No. 18 LMU by a 7-1 tally in the second half, the No. 4 Pacific men's water polo program registered a 9-5 victory to remain undefeated Sunday at the Eberhardt Aquatics Center.
The Tigers (13-0, 2-0 WCC) erased a 4-2 halftime deficit and opened the second half on a 6-0 run. It included a 4-0 third quarter with a pair of goals each by graduate Matthew Hosmer and senior Mihailo Vukazic. A couple more fourth quarter goals by graduate Stefan Vavic and Hosmer put the game away.
The five goals allowed were the fewest by Pacific this season. Graduate Bae Fountain shined with 10 saves in net.
Hosmer submitted a hat trick for Pacific, his sixth of the season. Vukazic, the reigning WCC Player of the Week winner, recorded a pair of goals and is up to 45 on the year.
Senior Gil Gvishi and graduate Zsombor Gyemant each tallied a goal to aid the offense.
Pacific is now 12-6 all-time against LMU and has won nine of the last 10 meetings.
Up next, the Tigers will head to Santa Clara for a neutral site match-up against No. 5 Fordham. It will be a showdown between the only two remaining unbeaten teams in the country.
