A1 M - Roma Vis Nova defeated by Firenze in a burning match
Roma Vis Nova, playing in the second day of the Serie A1 men's water polo league in Firenze, was defeated 10-9 by Florentia. The Romans led the game from the start, imposing their rhythm, but towards the end, they suffered a negative streak of 5-1, which brought the Tuscan team back into the game until the final victory. However, there was an incident that changed the fate of the match. Three minutes before the end, at 9-7, the Croatian player Jerko Penava, facing the goalkeeper alone, received an unseen and unsanctioned blow that Nicolosi marked as brutality against the Roma Vis Nova player. The Croatian player suffered a cranial trauma and required an ambulance intervention. He was taken to the hospital for examinations due to the presumed cranial trauma. The words of coach Alessandro Calcaterra: "The team played a beautiful match, we were holding our ground upon their return, then the pivotal incident occurred. I thank Coach Minetti who apologized to me and the bench; the decision should have been made differently, and they should not have won. It is a small consolation, which shows our worth."
