E.ON Men's Hungarian First Division – BVSC: first suffering, then 6-0 in 22 minutes

In a surprisingly tight match, UVSE forced the BVSC-Manna ABC team to a challenge in the 5th round of the men's championship. The purple-yellows led 7-4 early in the second quarter, but in the remaining 22 minutes, only the railwaymen scored goals, a total of six. Szeged triumphed again in a tremendous battle, taking down Eger with a 0-3 rush after a 5-5 draw; in the other matches, the favorites secured confident victories, with reigning champion FTC-Telekom scoring up to 21 goals against Kaposvár after a 12-0 halftime lead.

Szeged is on a good streak, having bravely defeated Vasas last week and now taking all three points from Eger. A tough battle ensued at Bitskey, with neither team excelling in attack, especially in the first half, where the visitors took a 2-3 advantage. The third quarter saw the Eger team equalize with their first attack, but they failed to gain momentum, not finding the net in the following seven minutes. However, Szeged managed to score twice during this time, with Danka Benedek saving a penalty at 3-4. Shortly after Sziládi Kristóf scored an action goal at 0:13, Eger got a powerplay, and in a scuffle near the ball, another penalty was awarded against Danka, who was near ejection threshold, leading to a 4-5 start for the final period.

A similar scenario unfolded: a quick Eger goal made it 5-5, followed by a goal drought for the hosts in the remaining seven and a half minutes. In contrast, after a hard-fought five and a half minutes, Szeged regained the lead with Leinweber Olivér's goal at 2:11, and Bóbis Botond sealed the deal with a powerplay goal a minute before the end; Leinweber's action goal at the end was the cherry on top.

The UVSE–BVSC match brought unexpected excitement, as the purple team took the lead 5-3 after eight minutes. Varga Dániel rested several key players – including the Tátrai brothers and Konarik Ákos, who watched from the stands due to the somewhat grim developments – but had a modification opportunity: introducing Gyapjas Viktor after Korom Dániel failed to hold the ball in the first quarter. However, despite reaching 7-4, BVSC stepped up its defense, not allowing another goal from UVSE in the complete second half, a span of 22 minutes where they held firm and turned the tide. Following a 7-5 halftime score, BVSC dominated the second half with a 0-5 run, indicating that the recent Euro Cup matches took a toll on the young BVSC squad.

The other matches ended with clear victories. As terrible as last week was for Vasas, things turned around for Angyalföld this time: after a brilliant win against Marseille, they secured an easy victory in Debrecen.

Ferencváros heavily defeated Kaposvár, leading 12-0 at halftime. Szakonyi Dániel faced only four shots on his goal, and the goalkeeper, who dazzled in Kragujevac, saved them all – the second half was more balanced (9-7), yet the champions reached 21 goals.

OSC's game is also improving, with Kovács Róbert's team dominating in Pécs, clinching the second half 12-2.

Among the teams playing in the Euro Cup on Thursday, Szolnok and Honvéd will compete on Sunday in Miskolc and Szentes, respectively.
