Vela Nuoto Ancona-Ekipe Orizzonte 5-22

Ekipe Orizzonte made a strong start to the championship with a clear victory over Vela Nuoto Ancona, repeating the success achieved in Catania seven days ago in the Italian Cup against the same opponents.

In the afternoon, the team from Catania won 22-5 against the team from Ancona in the first day of the women's Serie A1 water polo league.

The final result was never in doubt, with the red and blue team leading 6-3 in the first period, and securing the second quarter with a 5-0 scoreline. The other two quarters were also in favor of the team coached by Martina Miceli, winning 4-0 and 7-2 respectively.

Dafne Bettini and Charlize Andrews scored four goals each, while Robin Jutte, Giulia Viacava, and Morena Leone each scored three goals. Bronte Halligan scored two goals, while Marta Giuffrida, Chiara Tabani, and Gaia Gagliardi scored one goal each. The four missed penalties out of the nine awarded did not affect the result.

After the match, the red and blue player number 12, Morena Leone, reflected on the team's first game in the league: "Today we had to break the ice - said Morena Leone - because, despite already playing in the Italian Cup, today's match still felt like a debut for us. As happens at the beginning of every championship, there are certainly things to review and improve. Nevertheless, we start with enthusiasm and tranquility and with the desire to evolve and grow, so we can show the great potential we have. The matches we played today and the one we will play on Wednesday are very important, looking ahead to the Champions League match next Saturday. The match against UVSE will be a very tough and exciting challenge at the same time, which will give us the opportunity to show how hard we have been working."

On Wednesday, October 23, at 2:30 PM, at the Nesima swimming pool (CT), Ekipe Orizzonte will face Cosenza Pallanuoto in the early match of the second round of Serie A1. On Saturday, October 26, at 3:00 PM, also at Nesima, the team from Catania will face the Hungarian team UVSE Budapest in the first round of Group D in the Champions League.
