Spandau with Marković, vice-champion of Germany; bronze for Vuksanović's Duisburg
Berlin Spandau, led by Vladimir Marković since November, did not crown a successful season with the title of national champion.
After five matches of the playoff final, Spandau lost the title to its biggest rival Waspo Hannover.
The Berliners won the German Super Cup this season, and then with Marković on the bench they won the German Cup and achieved a remarkable result on the international stage. Spandau reached the semi-finals of the European competition for the first time in 21 years. He qualified for the Final Four of the European Cup and took fourth place.
Spandau, the champion of Germany in 2023, entered the playoffs from first place in the league part of the season. In the first match of the final away from home, Hanover won after five minutes (14:12). Then he recorded a triumph at his home pool (15:13) and was one victory away from defending the title. However, Vaspo made a turnaround, won the next three meetings - 13:12, 7:5 and finally in the master's in Berlin - 9:6.
By winning the title, Vaspo secured participation in the Champions League. Spandau will play in the qualifiers for the elite competition, in which another German club will compete under the leadership of a Serbian coach.
ASC Duisburg, with Vuk Vuksanović at the head of the coaching staff, won third place and earned the right to participate in the Champions League qualifiers. The series of playoff games for the third place was played until two victories. The rival of the team from Duisburg was OSC from Potsdam. The first duel in Potsdam was exciting and tied until the end, so in the end it was decided by the fifth. Vuk Vuksanović's team triumphed 13:12.
