STOCKTON, Calif. – No. 9 Long Beach State was defeated by No. 4 Pacific with the score of 14-9 to close the three-game weekend in Northern California following a win against No. 8 California and at loss at No. 13 UC Davis. Senior Bruno Chiappini netted three goals as goalkeeper Aaron Wilson had eight saves and three steals.

Pacific (11-0) got on the board first with Matthew Hosmer on the first possession of the game. Long Beach State (14-7) answered quickly with Chiappini and Freshman Corbin Stanley scoring back-to-back goals to take the lead 2-1. Pacific answered back but Freshman Gabi Acosta got one in the net to keep the lead for the Beach. A three-goal run by the Tigers would close the first quarter with the Beach trailing 5-3.

Chiappini got things started on the second quarter to make a one goal game, but the Tigers responded quickly after. With under two minutes to halftime, Pacific netted another goal and went to halftime up 7-4.

In the second half Senior Evan Cain added one for the Beach but the Tigers kept the advantage scoring right after. An incredible hustle by Stanley made it back to a two-goal game. Chiappini's third goal of the match and a counterattack goal by Acosta tied things in Stockton, 8-8 with four minutes left in the quarter. Back-to-back goals by Pacific made it 10-8 with the Beach trailing heading into the last quarter.

In the last quarter of the game, the Tigers secured their advantage scoring four goals and only allowing one goal by the Beach from Junior Alec Johnson to close the game 14-9 for the undefeated Pacific.

The Beach is back at home in the Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center on Friday at 7 p.m. to host No. 5 UC Irvine for the second game of Big West play.
