Second Victory for Jadran
In the first game of the 2nd round of the Champions League, the players of Jadran from Split achieved their second victory of the season. The Croatian champion defeated the Georgian champion Dinamo in an away game in distant Tbilisi.
As expected, the home team never managed to take the lead, not even with the sometimes symbolic 1-0 at the beginning of the match. The first goal in Tbilisi was scored by the guests from Split, namely Loren Fatović. The most Dinamo could do in that part was to equalize twice (1-1 and 2-2). In the first quarter, five different players for Jadran scored one goal each. Apart from Fatović's opening goal, Ivan Domagoj Zović, Marino Čagalj, Australian Marcus Berehulak, and the fifth goal, scored by captain Jerko Marinić Kragić, all added to the scoreboard. Marinić Kragić was also the top scorer of the match with a total of 4 goals.
It cannot be said that Dinamo did not resist. In fact, in the second quarter they managed to equalize once more (6-6) just before the end of the quarter, but that was the last flash of the Georgians. The Croatian champion dominated the third quarter with a score of 5-1, entering the final quarter with a comfortable 12-7 lead.
To ensure an even safer lead, Duje Pejković scored a goal on the counter-attack in the first minute of the final quarter, increasing the lead to 13-7. The people from Split maintained this lead of six goals until the end of the match.
In the next round, scheduled in two weeks (October 29), Jadran will visit the reigning European champion, Ferencvaros.
