Long Beach State Opens Big West Play At UC Davis On Friday

The Beach will conclude their road trip facing No. 8 California and No. 4 Pacific.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – No. 9 Men's Water Polo will start their Big West campaign traveling to face No. 13 UC Davis on Friday at 7 p.m. After facing the Aggies, the Beach will play against No. 8 California on Saturday and No. 4 Pacific on Sunday with both games scheduled for 1 p.m.
 
Long Beach State (12-6) comes from a perfect 4-0 weekend at the Gary Troyer Tournament. The Beach dominated Redlands, Whittier, Wagner and No. 19 California Baptist led by Freshmen Gabi Acosta and Corbin Stanley, scoring 14 and 13 goals respectively. In cage, Seniors Aaron Wilson and Liam Ward had great games with Wilson posting 17 saves against Wagner for a season high.
 
Acosta and Stanley continue to have a great first year for the Beach as both lead the team in goals with 35 each. Senior Evan Cain and Sophomore Marc Frigola follow the freshmen duo with 30 goals each. In defense, Wilson records 102 saves so far with Ward at 73 stops for the Beach.
 
No. 13 UC Davis (8-8) comes from a 2-0 weekend at the Big West-WCC Tournament as they defeated No. 17 Santa Clara, 14-7 and No. 12 San Jose State, 11-9. This will be the second contest between Long Beach State and UC Davis, as both faced each other at the MPSF Invitational in September. In that occasion the Beach defeated the Aggies by 12-10, with Senior Bruno Chiappini leading the way with five goals. On the Aggies side, Redshirt Freshmen Thomas Kiesling leads the team with 35 goals so far in the season and Baxter Chelsom leads the way in defense.
 
After opening Big West play, the Beach will face the current three-time NCAA Champions, Cal Bears on Saturday afternoon at the Spieker Aquatics Center. The Bears (8-6, 0-2) opened MPSF play against No. 3 USC and No. 2 UCLA suffering two losses. On Sunday, Long Beach State will head to Stockton, Calif. to play against No. 4 Pacific (9-0). Before facing the Beach, the Tigers will host No. 12 San Jose State for their WCC match up.
 
The contest against No. 13 UC Davis will have live stats at thefosh.net while the match against No. 8 California will be livestreamed on Overnght and live stats at scores.6-8sports.com. On Sunday, the game against No. 4 Pacific will be live on ESPN+ and live stats can be followed on thefosh.net.
