Men’s Water Polo Heads To Gary Troyer Tournament

The tournament will be the last one before conference play starts for the Beach.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – No. 10 Long Beach State (8-6) looks to build more momentum prior to the start of Big West play against four opponents this week. The Beach will play four games over the weekend at the Gary Troyer Tournament at Claremont, Calif. before starting conference play next week.
 
Last week the Beach dominated the Air Force which is now ranked twenty in the nation at home winning by 20-6. Against the Falcons, Senior Evan Cain scored his 150th career goal and is currently tied in 14th on the rankings for goals scored at the Beach. Freshman Harper Stewart recorded his first career hat-trick for the Beach. In cage, Senior Aaron Wilson had 11 saves with a 73% save percentage and added one assist and three steals in the match.
 
After hosting Air Force, the Beach traveled to Malibu to face No. 4 Pepperdine. On a thrilling game Long Beach State was defeated by the Waves 15-12. Cain led the Beach with four goals and Freshman Artur Diaz had his first career hat-trick on the loss. Wilson came off the bench to notch nine saves, including a penalty shot stop and one assist.
 
Evan Cain continues to lead the Beach in offense with 26 goals in the season so far followed by Freshman Corbin Stanley with 23. Senior Bruno Chiappini and Freshman Gabi Acosta are close behind with 22 and 21, respectively. Chiappini and Sophomore Marc Frigola lead the team in assists with 18 each and in defense Aaron Wilson has contributed with 80 saves so far in his first season at the Beach and it is also the leader of the team with 18 steals.
 
The Beach will head to the Gary Troyer Tournament hosted by Pomona-Pitzer this weekend. On Friday they face Redlands at 11 a.m. at the Haldeman Pool in Claremont, Calif. and the Whittier at 3 p.m. at the La Verne Aquatics Center. On Saturday all games will be at the Haldeman Pool as the Beach faces Wagner at 8 a.m. and No. 19 California Baptist at Noon. All stats can be followed on thefosh.net.
