University of Michigan’s Libby Alsemgeest to Return for Fifth Season
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Center Libby Alsemgeest (Sr., Hamilton, New Zealand/St. Cuthbert’s College) of the University of Michigan will return to the water for a fifth season in Ann Arbor, Mich., during the 2024-25 academic year.
A three-year competitor for the Wolverines after seeing action in 2021, 2023 and 2024 with the 2022 season a redshirt year, Alsemgeest is coming off a senior year in which she posted 33 goals six assists, 112 drawn exclusions and 20 steals during 29 games as the Wolverines finished second at the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Championship.
For her career, she has 95 goals, 13 assists, 222 drawn exclusions and 59 steals in three seasons as the Wolverines have finished 21-5 (2021), 23-10 (2023) and 21-11 (2024) with first, third and second places finishes at the CWPA Championship, respectively.
The 2021 CWPA Championship Rookie of the Tournament and a 2024 CWPA Championship All-Tournament First Team honoree, Alsemgeest possesses international experience as a member of the 2019 World Championships team for New Zealand in Gwangju, South Korea.
A competitor at the 2019 Junior World Championships in Madeira, Portugal, she trained with her homeland’s senior national team in 2019 ans was previously selected for the 2018 Youth World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.
The 2019 Auckland College Sport Water Polo Player of the Year, she competed with Atlantis City Waitakere Water Polo clubs and was a member of the 2019 New Zealand senior national league tournament team.
The New Zealand U16 National Championships Most Valuable Player in 2018 for leading the team to a first place finish, she also aided her squad to a first place finish in the 2017 Senior National League and competed on the second place teams at the 2018 Pan Pacific Games with the U16 and U18 teams.
