Hosea Garners WCC Player of the Week
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – After setting a career-high in the win over #9 Long Beach State on Saturday and leading Pepperdine against #3 Stanford on Sunday, Christian Hosea was named the WCC Player of the Week.
In the two games last weekend, the fifth-year attacker from San Clemente, Calif. had 12 goals, six drawn exclusions and one steal, all while posting an impressive .750 shooting percentage. In the 15-12 win over the ninth-ranked Beach, Hosea set a career-high with seven goals on a perfect 1.000 shooting percentage. He also earned four exclusions in the contest. Then against the third-ranked Cardinal, Hosea tallied another five goals, earned two more exclusions and collected a steal. This is Hosea's first-ever conference weekly honor. He made the WCC All-Tournament Team last season.
So far this year, Hosea has collected a team-high 44 goals on a .698 shooting percentage. He's also notched 21 drawn exclusions, 15 steals and 10 assists during the 2024 campaign. He currently sits 21st in all-time goals for the Waves with 155 career scores.
This marks the fourth time a Pepperdine player has won a WCC weekly award this season. The Waves swept the first weekly honors as Jon Carcarey was named the WCC Player of the Week and Erik Ionescu garnered the WCC Newcomer of the Week award on September 10. Ionescu was also named the WCC Newcomer of the Week for a second time on September 24.
Pepperdine will head to Claremont, Calif. for the Gary Troyer Tournament next Friday and Saturday where they will play four games in two days. Pepperdine is set to face off against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Pomona-Pitzer on Friday before taking on #8 UC Irvine and Concordia on Saturday.
