Sabac again in the group stage of the European Cup; Valis did not surprise the favourites
The Šabac team qualified for the group stage of the European Cup for the second year in a row > Valis also participated in the qualifications for the same competition, but Valjevci failed to surprise and advance.
Sabac is the host of Group A, in which, with a series of convincing victories, even before the end of the tournament, it secured a place among the top 16 in the second-ranked European club competition.
In the first round, Šapčani easily defeated OSC Potsdam 17:8, with three goals each from Stojanović and Maćić.
Then it was the turn of OSC from Budapest, which has a weaker and significantly younger team than last season, but is not a naive opponent. Nevertheless, Nemanja Ličanin's team dominated and broke the resistance of the team from Budapest, whose net was defended by the goalkeeper of Partizan, formerly of Novi Belgrade, Joao Pedro Coimbra. In the 11:4 victory, Barać, Maćić, Dragović and Korać scored two goals each for the home team.
Sapčani were free in the third round, and in the fourth they had a chance to secure further placement a day before the end of the tournament. They did not miss the opportunity. They beat the French Strasbourg, for which the former national team player of Serbia and Montenegro, Marko Petković, plays. Šapčani left Strasbourg behind by six goals - 14:8, and the biggest contribution in the attack was made by Maćić (three goals), Novaković, Toholj, Stojanović , Korać (two each).
Today Šabac will meet Dinamo from Bucharest, which has two points less than Šabac. Our club does not have imperative victories, but they will want to end the tournament the way they started it, with a victory. Dinamo needs a point to keep second place and, together with Šačani, advance to the group stage.
Valis traveled to Montenegro, to a tournament in Budva, where the favorites were the famous clubs, Italian Brescia and Hungarian Honved. The first rival of Valjevac was Breša, which reached three points with a 17:9 triumph. The team, which Miloš Saković left the bench, held on well in the duel with Honved until the middle of the second quarter and the score was 3:3. Then Honved went on a 5:0 run, securing the victory. In the end it was 10:6.
Although after the first two matches they lost the chance to place in first or second place, Valjevci did not lose their motivation, in the third match they easily beat the home team Budva - 15:8, and today they are meeting with Banja Luka,
