No. 5 Pacific Heads to No. 16 UC San Diego for Saturday Contest - University of the Pacific
LA JOLLA, Calif. – In its lone competition of the weekend, the fifth-ranked Pacific men's water polo program will travel to No. 16 UC San Diego for a 6 p.m. game at the Canyonview Aquatic Center.
Pacific is off to a perfect 8-0 start. The team remained at No. 5 in the Collegiate Water Polo Association rankings after taking down No. 15 LMU and No. 8 UC Irvine last weekend.
The Tigers are 8-0 for the first time since 2019. They'll look to go 9-0 for the first time since 2016 when they began 11-0.
Averaging over a hat trick a game is senior Mihailo Vukazic with 28 goals on the season. He's tallied a pair of seven-goal performances in wins over Wagner and UC Irvine.
Six different Tigers have scored at least 10 goals on the season including graduate Matthew Hosmer (21), graduate Oliver Fodor (13), senior Jeremie Cote (12), senior Reuel D'Souza (11) and graduate Stefan Vavic (10). Freshman Ori Buzaglo has also been a key contributor with go-ahead goals against LMU and Princeton.
UC San Diego (6-7) is coming off a 12-9 victory over LMU on Wednesday. The Tritons will face Concordia tonight before welcoming the Tigers.
Pacific has won five straight against the Tritons dating back to 2010.
Pacific, which is continuing its 10-match road stretch to begin the season, will play its home opener Sunday, Oct. 13 at 1 p.m. against Long Beach State at the Eberhardt Aquatics Center.
