USA Youth Women Stumble Against Greece, Will Play Hungary For Bronze In China
Chengdu, China - September 21 - The USA Youth Women's National Team fell to Greece 13-8 earlier today in semifinal action of the World Aquatics U18 World Championship. Rosalie Hassett, Allison Cohen and Charlotte Raisin each scored two goals in the loss with Keri Glad adding 13 saves in net. Team USA will now meet Hungary for the bronze medal on Sunday in China. Greece came out hot in this match, scoring three of the first four goals to quickly build a 3-1 lead. Hassett scored to get it back within a goal at 3-2 but Greece ran off two more in a row to go in front 5-2 after one quarter. After Greece went ahead 6-3 in the second quarter, Team USA made their push to get back in the game. Cohen hit on penalty to make it 6-4 followed by a Raisin tally for a 6-5 game. Then with just :26 left in the period it was Cohen hitting again to level the score at 6-6 going into halftime.
The two teams traded goals in the third quarter before Greece went ahead 9-7. Sydney Lowell found the cage late in the period to keep it a one goal contest as play moved to the fourth quarter. It was in the final period where Greece took total control as they blanked Team USA 4-0. With that offensive outburst they took a one goal match and turned it into a five goal victory, claiming a 13-8 win.
Team USA went 4/9 on power plays and 1/3 on penalties while Greece went 4/7 on power plays and 2/5 on penalties.
