A1 M – Lorenzo Cotugno is a new player of the Training Academy Olympic Roma!

The market never sleeps and the Training Academy Olympic Roma lands another, very important move. Lorenzo Cotugno is the sixth new face of the 2024/2025 season, a very young defender from Astra Nuoto Roma. Born in 2006, Cotugno is a useful new entry both for coach Mario Fiorillo's A1 series and for Mino Di Cecca's Juniores, who has known Lorenzo very well since his time at Roma Nuoto.

After starting out at Campus Roma, Cotugno first moved to Blu 3000 and then to Pallanuoto Trieste for family reasons, related to his father's work commitments. Back in Rome, Cotugno played for Roma Nuoto, completing all the steps between Distretti Ecologici and Astra Nuoto Roma. Last season he played regularly in Serie A1, earning the trust of coach Maurizio Mirarchi, in addition to winning the Junior Scudetto and participating in the U19 European Championship with the Italian youth national team. In 2023 – with the Distretti – he had already won the U20 category Scudetto.

The welcome from president Mario Fiorillo: «We are very happy with Lorenzo's arrival. He is a very young boy, but with important experiences already including won Scudettos, the U19 European Championship and a taste of Serie A1. He had a good summer of work. Our goal is to make him grow and work so that he has a large amount of minutes in the first team. I believe and we firmly believe in his human, physical and technical qualities. He has everything to excel in modern water polo: he can have an important role, we will work together to help him continue his growth».

The words of Lorenzo Cotugno: «I am very happy to take part in the Olympic project. From the very beginning I understood that I was arriving in a very organized company, so when I was contacted by Mario Fiorillo I immediately took his proposal into consideration. I am young and I still have a lot to learn: I am sure that with the help of my teammates and Mario I will learn a lot. I thank Mario and Luca Fiorillo for the opportunity and the trust they have given me: I can't wait to start!».
