WATER POLO / WORLD YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP U18
IN THE FINAL OUR NATIONAL TEAM, 13-8 USA!
Magnificent (yet another) performance from our wonderful national Junior U18 water polo team. He beat the USA 13-8 in the first semi-final of the World Championship held in Chengdu, China and now tomorrow Sunday at 10:00 Greek time he will play in the final and claim the world title against Spain or Hungary (the second semi-final will start at 15:30).
And this is the second medal this year (2024), after the one in Zagreb at the European Junior Women's Championship with many of the girls participating in both events.
Atypically the national team also got a revenge for the lost final of 2022, which was defeated 10-8 by the USA and won the silver medal. Tomorrow, another bunch of players who came second on the podium at the U16 world championships in Larissa also in 2022, will be vying for the top spot!
At the same time, it will be the third participation in the final of a similar event as apart from 2022 he has competed in the final and in 2012 in the first U18 World Championship, winning the gold medal in the final with Hungary which he had defeated 9-5.< /p>
Dominant presence from our girls who made an ideal start and a dream finale in the crucial match. And this as they led 5-2, and did not relent when their opponents led 7-6. With calmness, but above all efficiency, they once again became the bosses of the match, they achieved a 7-1 streak and in the last eight minutes they simply could not be caught. They ended it with an impressive 4-0 that gave them the huge victory-qualification and the possibility to claim the gold of the world.
The most valuable player was Nefeli Kovacevic who scored five goals. Captain Ariadni Karabetsou scored four.
Well done to our national team!!!
