Women's U18 WC: there was more to this
Our national team started the Women's U18 World Championship in Chengdu, China, right away against the defending champions, the Americans. dominated the match for three quarters with a great game. But despite starting with a 9-7 lead in the last eight minutes, there were no goals, the Americans saved the match in the last three minutes and drew the penalty shootout, i.e. we started with one point, although it could have been three.
Both guards defended first-class in the opening quarter, we were able to score after four minutes thanks to Lili Sóti to "break through" with a great goal from the center, and then we missed two opportunities, which was a shame, because you could tell that no matter how tight we were at the back, the Yankees would solve the goal sooner or later - this finally happened 13 seconds before the whistle.
Then twice in the second quarter, it's good that Eszter Varró was also able to say hello. Regardless, the goal sack was broken in this part of the game, Zoé Lendvay was able to score a man advantage, but with another goal from Nowaczek, the advantage was there again at 3-4. But then Kata Hajdú got down to the "task", so to speak, first she shot a parade in the yard, then she crossed the zone, and then she packed a five, all in 70 seconds, and we were already leading 6-4. So that we don't feel so good about ourselves, with a considerable phase delay, the Americans made it even better in the last minute from a five-point deficit.
Moreover, they started the third part much better and soon turned around at 6-7 - so let the next five minutes be all about us. Dominika Kardos equalized from a well-played advantage, and at the end of a more serious swimming competition, Zsófi Horváth scored a stunning goal at the end of a turn, and one minute before the whistle, Emma Gulyás-Oldal added one, from another counter, i.e. eight minutes before the end, it looked particularly good who is the scoreboard (9-7).
At the end of the fourth, less so - because we forgot to score in the last eight minutes. Although there were opportunities, two goals, but the ball stuttered too much both times - and although we also conceded two deficits, in the last three minutes, first a painfully cheap one from a single turnover made the big rival beautiful, and then 53 seconds before the end, from a slipping defense zone was also shot through. Our last action did not hide many dangers, i.e. in the end the decision was left to the five-meter players.
No one made a mistake for three rounds, then Eszteré Varró was saved by the American goalkeeper, Luca Torma saved the team, but in the fifth round , after Laura Kardos was also caught by Glad, Luca couldn't help either: he was shot to his right hand for the fifth time (Haland-Ford, who scored the equalizer he scored at the end), he got in, but the ball bounced in, leaving one point; there was more to this match, that's hardly in doubt.
